NTSE Eligibility 2023 Overview

The NTSE Scholarship Eligibility Criteria 2023 is yet to be released. We can consider last year's notification for eligibility criteria as only a minor change is expected. Detailed information about the eligibility criteria is given below -

NTSE Eligibility Criteria- Age Limit

Students under 18 years (as of 1st July of that particular year) who are not employed and appearing in the class X board exam for the first time.

NTSE 2023 Eligibility Criteria- Educational Qualification:

If we talk about the Eligibility Criteria for Educational Qualification for NTSE Exam 2023. Students enrolled in class X in any type of recognised institution, such as a Kendriya Vidyalaya, a Navodaya Vidyalaya, a Sainik School, etc., will be eligible to appear in the state-level examination from the State in which the school is located.
However, no domicile restriction will be imposed. The State may set any other eligibility condition for appearing in the screening test, such as any qualifying percentage of marks in the previous annual examination. Students registered under Open and Distance Learning (ODL) are also eligible for the scholarship, provided they are below 18 years of age and are appearing in Class X for the very first time.

Stage I:

Only Indian students studying in Indian schools are eligible to compete in the NTSE 2023. The complete NTSE Stage I Exam Eligibility Criteria 2023 is provided below.
  • Students in grade 10th from recognised schools are eligible to take the NTSE Phase I.
  • Students from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Navodaya Vidyalaya, and Sainik School can apply for NTSE from the State where they attend school. They will have no residency restrictions.
  • Students enrolled in Open and Distance Learning (ODL) are also eligible to take the NTSE Phase I, provided they are not employed anywhere and will be giving the class 10th board exam for the first time.

Stage II: For Indian Students:

Students who clear the stage I exam will be eligible to sit for the stage 2 exam.
  • Students must first obtain the required minimum scores on the stage I exam to qualify for stage II.
  • Along with the NTSE result, all states/UTs will release the NTSE cut-off for their respective states.
  • Students must meet sectional and category cut-offs to be selected for the stage II exam.
  • It should be noted that a student who meets the cut-off marks but does not qualify for any of the sections will not be selected for the NTSE stage II exam.

NTSE Eligibility Criteria For Indian Nationals Studying Abroad:

Indian students in class 10 studying abroad can take the NTSE stage 2 directly. They must, however, meet the requirements listed below.
  • A student must be under the age of 18.
  • They must have received at least 60% in their class 9th annual examination.
  • The student has to opt for an exam centre located in India.
  • By 31st December, they must send an attested copy of the class 9 mark sheet to the Head, Department of Educational Survey Division, NCERT, New Delhi.
Note: If a student is selected, the scholarship will be paid only to those pursuing further studies in India.
