What is JEE?

Joint Entrance Examination or JEE is a common-national level engineering examination. All the students who aspire to get admission to the most prestigious and in-demand engineering colleges and universities in India. The common examination is further divided into two segments, JEE (Main) and JEE (Advanced).
  •  The entrance examination has been conducted by India’s National Testing Agency (NTA) since 2019.
  • The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) regulates and manages the admission process as well as the seat allocation for the participating 23 IITs, 31 NITs, 26 IIITs and 33 other Central Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs) on the basis of the ranks obtained by the student in JEE (Main) and JEE (Advanced).
  • Students who enrol in an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) are not eligible to retake the JEE-Advanced test, although this is not the case for NIT, IISc, IISERs, RGIPT, IIPE, and IIST.
The JoSAA conducts post-exam counselling, but there are numerous institutes that do not participate but use the JEE (Advanced) score as the basis of admission. The Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs), the Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy (IIPE), the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT), the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), and the Indian Institute of Science (IISC) are some of these institutions.

JEE (Main)

JEE (Main) is a computer-based engineering entrance test that is one of the most popular for admission to NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs. However, many famous private colleges accept JEE (Main) scores as a foundation for admission to Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) and Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) programmes.
Taking the JEE Main is the first step toward becoming an engineer. JEE (Main) 2023 will be held in two sessions, session 1 in January 2023 and session 2 in April 2023 at various examination centres.
Session 1:  24, 25, 29, 30, 31 January and 1 February 2023.
Session 2: 06, 08, 10, 11 and 12 April 2023 (13 and 15 as reserved dates)
The exam has 3 papers in total.
  • Paper 1: It is for Undergraduate Engineering Programmes (B.E/B.Tech.) in NITs, IIITs, and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs), as well as institutions/universities funded/recognized by participating State Governments. Additionally, JEE (Main) serves as the pre-requisite for JEE (Advanced), which is administered by the National Testing Agency for admission into India's most prestigious engineering institutions, the IITs.
  • Paper 2: Paper 2A and Paper 2B are conducted for admission to Undergraduate Programs for Bachelor of Architecture (B. Arch.) and Bachelor of Planning (BPlan) courses in the country, respectively.

JEE (Main) Eligibility

Candidates must fulfil the eligibility requirements established by India’s National Testing Agency (NTA) in order to take JEE (Main) 2023. Candidates should verify the eligibility requirements before filling out the form since those who do not qualify for the exam will be disqualified and will not be eligible for admission.
The eligibility criteria for JEE (Main) 2023 as determined by the NTA can be segmented into two categories.
  • Eligibility requirements for the JEE Main 2023 examination
  • Eligibility requirements for admission to colleges like IITs, NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs.

JEE (Main) Application

The JEE (Main) 2023 examination is being held in two sessions: January and April 2023. The candidate can apply for just one session or both sessions at the same time by paying the appropriate fees. This provides the applicants with a two-fold advantage. They can improve their scores in the second session if the first one was not up to par or if they missed the first session due to uncertain circumstances. As a result, the candidate will not have to wait a year to take the most coveted engineering admission test.

JEE (Main) Admit Card

The admit card for the JEE (Main) is released by the NTA on their official website. For engineering aspirants, the admit card is a crucial piece of paper. They must carry their JEE (Main) admit card as well as a picture ID to the exam centre in order to take the exam.

JEE (Main) Opportunity for NRI/PIO/GCC Resident Students

The DASA/CIWG Scheme started by the Ministry of Human Resources and Development allows aspiring engineering NRI students to get admission to the top engineering institutes in India. This scheme is often referred to as the ‘NRI Quota’ among NRIs in the Middle East and elsewhere.
Currently, there are three alternatives for NRI students under the DASA Scheme: Engineering Admission in India.
  • Priority 1 – Admission to IITs in India
  • Priority 2 – Admission to CFTIs in India (NITs, IIITs & Other Institutions)
  • Priority 3 – Admission to State Engineering Colleges

JEE (Main) Exam Centres Outside India

The organising authority for JEE (Main) 2023, NTA, has provided relief to engineering aspirants outside India. The online computer-based examination will now take place in several nations including GCC countries. To serve the growing number of international engineering aspirants, NTA has allotted exam centres at 25 cities outside India. This allows NRIs and other foreign citizens to apply for admission to India's best technical schools.
Candidates can now select their chosen exam centre when filling out the application. They should be informed that after the JEE (Main) 2023 admit card is issued, they will not be allowed to change their centres.

JEE (Main) Exam Pattern

The JEE (Main) comprises two papers: Paper 1 for Bachelor's of Engineering/ Bachelor's of Technology and Paper 2 for Bachelor's of Architecture/ Bachelor's of Planning, as we all know.
